A few weeks ago, I started building a plugin for WooCommerce and Shopify. Like many people today, I leaned on vibe coding, using Google Antigravity to generate most of the code. It felt fast and exciting, right up until I opened the Ruby and PHP files and realized I couldn’t understand much of what was written.
That moment changed something for me.
Shipping code I can’t read isn’t skill, it’s dependence. If I’m serious about building products, I need to understand what’s happening underneath.
So I’ve made a decision: for now, I’m focusing only and entirely on tech skills.
I pulled out a very old book on C from my shelf, dusty pages and all. Why C? Because it teaches fundamentals: memory, logic, and how computers actually think.
This is my first lap through the book. It won’t be fast, but it will be real.
Back to basics. Back to learning.
